Celebrating Literacy Across Roma ISD!

Posted Date: 09/09/26 (03:41 PM)

Roma ISD is proud to celebrate the dedication and hard work taking place across all six of our elementary schools as we continue building strong readers and creating a foundation for lifelong learning! This commitment is being recognized in a special way with all six of our Roma ISD elementary schools being named “Bright Spots Top Schools” in literacy by The 74, a national education news organization that highlights schools achieving remarkable results for students.

Delia G. Garcia Elementary School, Emma Vera Elementary School, F. J. Scott Elementary School, R. & C. Saenz Elementary School, R. T. Barrera Elementary School, and Veterans Memorial Elementary School are all highlighted for their commitment to providing students with high-quality literacy instruction, high expectations, and meaningful opportunities to develop a love of reading.

The Bright Spots project identifies schools where students are outperforming expectations in reading, taking into account the economic circumstances of the communities they serve. The 74’s analysis compared third-grade reading performance with local poverty data to identify schools that are “beating the odds” in literacy.

For all six schools, this recognition is a testament to the dedication of its students, teachers, administrators, staff, and families. It also shines a light on the important work happening throughout Roma ISD elementary classrooms every day.

“We are incredibly proud of the students, teachers, administrators, and staff at all of our elementary schools for earning this outstanding recognition,” said Roma ISD Superintendent Carlos M. Gonzalez Jr. “Being named a Bright Spots Top School in literacy is a tremendous accomplishment and reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment to student success that takes place on this campus every day. This recognition is a wonderful reminder of what is possible when our educators have high expectations for every student and our entire school community works together. We congratulate everyone on this well-deserved honor and are proud to celebrate their success with all of Roma ISD.”

From classroom read-alouds and foundational reading skills to engaging literature and opportunities that inspire students to become lifelong readers, literacy is a priority across all six Roma ISD elementary schools.

Together, we are helping our students read, learn, grow, and succeed.
